Modified
This round of Carpet Wars would see a few more top name drivers in attendance. Olly Jefferies and Chris Grainger were both competing, making for a generally faster A final. Adam seemed to have regained his normal pace and took up the pole position at the end of the day after a difficult round 3 with his Mi3 (which is still in the early days of set up development); Glenn Doman would be the closest to Adam, missing out on the twenty-second lap by a little under a second. Glenn was showing good pace for someone who hasn’t raced properly over the past year. Olly Jefferies rounded off the top three, four seconds behind Glenn. Andy Childs showed awesome pace in the last qualifier, but a single mistake cost him six seconds, without which he could have taken Olly’s third spot! Richard Bettaney put in a good qualifying performance putting himself sixth on the grid just in front of John Pape.

Leg 1
Into the fist corner Glenn Doman sitting in second went wide allowing Olly Jefferies to tuck down the inside of him, but not giving up and putting pressure on Olly paid off when he made a small mistake which allowed Glenn to regain the position. Adam pulled out a small lead from the rest of the pack allowing him a three second gap on Glenn at the end of the five minutes. The race to watch though was between National Champion Chris Grainger and Andy Childs; Andy chased Chris’ Yokomo hard, looking for a way through the whole time. Andy was fully committed (as always) into every corner, trying to force the National Champion to make a mistake, but this would never come and the two would be split by just 0.11 seconds at the end of the five minutes with Chris taking the last podium spot. Yet again some awesome racing seen from the top guys. |

Leg 2
The first lap was reasonably clean with the drivers towards the back of the grid having a small tussle that would cost them time and drop them back from the front runners. Adam Rogers repeated a similar performance to that in the first leg, but Glenn Doman presented more of a threat this time. Glenn pushed hard, but never got close enough to the back of Adams car to pressure him and in the end he finished a little over a second behind Adam thus securing his second place in the overall standings. Brain Eldridge managed to work his way through the pack from tenth on the grid to finish fifth in this leg, which was a good result after a torrid first leg. Olly Jefferies, although very fast, kept making small mistakes that cost him big on the track and slowly slid down the order to finish seventh at the end of the five minutes.
Once again though the race to watch was between Chris and Andy, a race which went down to the last lap. Andy chased hard needing a small mistake from Chris to get past, the mistake coming as Chris was turning onto the straight where he clipped a Bot Dot and rolled. This handed Andy the third spot, which he maintained until the end of the race . |
